Knitcraft social and crochet books

Hello! I’ve not had too much to blog about recently, we’ve mainly been focusing on the new Knitcraft Spring CAL, so I can’t tell you much about that just yet…….also finalising the finer details for the February Crochet Sanctuary , it’s literally two weeks away, and I’m becoming so nervous! At the same time we are also planning and taking bookings for the April Crochet Sanctuary, we’re pulling all the stops out on this one! We visited cranage hall yesterday and looked at the room again, our own Harry Potter style room, discussed the layout, and realised we need more crocheted items!! So Abby (my beautiful daughter) has been making lots of Pom Poms to fill our TCS (the crochet sanctuary) fillable letters, to pop onto the fire place, we’re adding more bunting and finishing blankets and cushions

You can’t have too much right?!

Our Knitcraft social group is growing rapidly!!!! I don’t know where they’ve all come from but it’s great!! We’ve had 4 new ladies join us, and @lyndascraftroom and I are thoroughly enjoying helping them to grow their yarn stash!!

We’ve even had a little girl join us who is being taught how to crochet in school and even though she’s not quite joined the group she has been popping along with her Mum for help, and it’s lovely!

I’ve finished the top part of Sophie’s stool!!!

I still wish I’d dropped another hook size because it’s still slightly too big, pattern a 3mm for the top but I think I should of dropped to a 2mm, but it’ll have to do now, just the shoes to go, I’m so pleased with it.

Today’s been great, we had our Knitcraft social this morning and then this afternoon we attended the Event City exhibition hall at Trafford for the craft show, we had won tickets through a competition ran by the lovely Lynne at Wool Nest, so free for us to get in, unfortunately not too much there in the way of yarn, I think 3 stalls in total, so we only stayed for an hour, I did treat myself to some king Cole cake (more yarn cakes) 🙈 I seem to have gained rather large collection of scheepjes whirls, Caron cakes, style crafts and now King Cole, there’s only so many shawls a girl can have! Then later this afternoon we popped into blacksheep wools for some more of their little patterns.

I’ve had a good bargain or two this week from eBay, I’m a stickler for a good Crochet book, and won this

What a book! The patterns are amazing! Really modern and I literally want to make everything.

I also ordered this one but not 100% keen really, it’s no where near as good as the Celtic cables one, but in all fairness I’ve not read through thoroughly yet

Sublime review

I think sirdar have described it perfectly, it is simply sublime, beautifully soft, and amazing to crochet with, it’s just a real treat and an absolute pleasure to use.  

My only negative thing is that there are zero crochet patterns available for sublime, none.  

Each skein is 50g and 116m, which surprisingly goes a long way, I’ve so far managed to get 80% of a baby cardigan completed in sublime ‘piglet’ I’m currently just finishing the last little arm, then it’s the collar and edging, each skein is £5.29 I bought mine from Black sheep wools so for less than £11.00 I have a beautiful cashmere and merino silk cardigan to give as a gift, I’m so pleased with it.  

I’m not much of a rule breaker, I like to use a suggested pattern for the yarn I use or the other way around, I wanted to make a modern baby cardigan to suit the sublime but with zero crochet patterns I’ve used a Debbie bliss pattern

I’ve struggled with how the pattern is worded, I’ve had to read and reread some elements, put it down and come back again, but I’ve figured it and it’s stunning! I’ll have the last sleeve and collar finished by tomorrow so I’ll post a picture.   

Anyway, sirdar sublime, is sublime and a real treat to use!!

Summers coming! 🌺👒🌺

Well maybe not quite yet but at least we can start preparing for it in terms of crochet.  I’ve started to make some gorgeous little summer hats for little girls.  It started with a friend of mine asking for one but she could only find a pattern in Russian.  

Anyway I’ve managed to find something similar what do you think?

I sent this photo to my friend who then asked for a band to be added where the stitch changes 🙈 anyway it was simple enough to add a slip stitch all the way around 

Anyway I got to give it to my friends daughter who is only 3 years old, her words were ‘it’s amazing!’ A big word for a 3 year old!!

She’s way to cute, she had her hair in a high pony tail in the picture below so the hat looks a little lumpy

I’ve now been asked to make another, but in pink, with two flowers, and not using the spiral pattern, so I’ve found one using a v stitch

It took a little bit to get the sizing right, but I think I’ve cracked it, and I really like the stitch.  For this one I’m going to add two flowers and have leaves around it

Both of these hats have been made using DMC Natura cotton, one 50g ball each.  The flowers have been made using sirdar cotton 4ply, the sirdar is beautiful to crochet with, simply stunning.  

I’m enjoying these so much I think I’ll make a few and pop them on Etsy to see how they go.  I’ve just ordered a child size mannequin head this morning (horrible looking things) but at least it will display the hats properly

The wee house of crochet first ever blog!

Work done, tea done, feet up and crochet out!  I’ve got exactly 7 weeks and 5 days until my holiday to Florida.  Normal my crochet is always for everyone else, so this my first item just for me! And it’s sirdar sunny sweater, the pattern shows it in sundance 507, but I’m using a more of a biscuit/gold Colorado, in paton dk 100% cotton and it is Devine to crochet with, so easy to see your stitches and feels so expensive! I’ve completed one half just on the second, then I’ve to start on one for my mum in pure white, isn’t it gorgeous! The Paton DK is really light and not heavy, so I’m hoping it will feel good to wear one evening in Florida.  I’m also going to alter the pattern slightly and go for 3/4 length sleeves.

I’m also really excited I’m waiting on June’s little box of crochet by Amanda bloom, it looks lovely!   If you’ve not tried a box from amanda I’d highly recommend getting one, as you know I’m still a baby when it comes to crochet, but last months little box of crochet was a washer, a rather beautiful washer, the technique used was tapestry crochet, it was the first time use tried it and I loved it, have a nosey at some of the boxes you won’t be dissapointed http://www.littleboxofxrochet.co.uk. In fact there’s a picture below of my wash cloth 

    

Isn’t it just gorgeous!! Also Amanda kindly included some lovely soap, so every time I worked on my washer all I could smell was the soap….delish!  So if you really fancy treating yourself make your way over to Little Box of Crochet
