James C Brett Marble chunky review

Who doesn’t like a bit of James C Brett? I do, I have so far really enjoyed flutterby, twinkle and I thought party time was fab and fun, But marble chunky is something else, I’ve bought 2 colours so far, and these are new out, a stunning denim and peach

And a really nice green mix with grey, albeit I haven’t used the green mix yet

Whilst the party time is a favourite of mine, the marble just has that real quality feel to it.  It works up on a 6mm hook, and it’s an awful lot softer than I thought it would be.  It’s got some stunning colour changes all the way through, personally the colour changes are so nice you wouldn’t want to do anything overly complicated with it, I’ve so far crocheted a very simple granny square blanket

I really like the denim with the peach, now I reckon this wood make a fabulous poncho, and the colours would look stunning with dark blue jeans and some nice boots…..shame the weather is getting better!

Each ball is 200g too so you can really do a lot with a couple of balls, I was lucky enough to get them in the 3 for 2 while the offer was on at hobbycraft, so I ended up with 6 of each ๐Ÿ™ˆ a couple of blankets and a couple of ponchos for next year I think!!

Anyway at ยฃ5.90 a ball from hobbycraft with or without the 3 for 2 offer they’re a real bargain.  Go get them!

Caron Cakes review

Well how long have we been waiting for these? Finally they’re here, in the UK! I’m currently in The Scottish highlands and managed to pick my order up from Hobbycraft before leaving yesterday.

Fresh out of the box, my first impression was ‘they’re huge’ but they are 200g each.  I love the colours I chose but not quite sure how they relate to what they are called, these are cookies and cream

They sat on the back seat of my car all the way from Warrington to Edinburgh I was tempted to pullover a few times and give them a squeeze but I resisted ha ha.

As soon as I got to my hotel I started work on a cowl neck poncho for my daughter, I worked out I just had enough in cookies and cream X 3 and I love a bit of hotel crochet, I can count in peace without any disruption! Bliss ๐Ÿ’—

I have read a few comments by other crocheters about being dissapointed with Caron cakes but I am certainly not, some don’t like the abrupt colour change, I do! I really like it, it’s also a lot softer than I imagined it would be, I’ve gotten this far and there some definite colour changes but again I have no issue with this at all

Hobbycraft have what I think is a really good deal on them, in fact a good deal on all of their yarn, 3 for 2, I bought 3 cookies and cream and 3 strawberry trifle, which is more of an apricot, so 6 Caron cake for ยฃ40minstead of ยฃ60 still sounds expensive but at 200g each I think it’s an absolute bargain.
I think the 3 for 2 is only on until 12th March so get shopping now!!

Wow!! Caron cakes comes to Hobbycraft UK!!!!

I am more excited than a child at Christmas!

I cannot believe how good hobbycraft are! They’ve only managed to go and get CARON CAKES!!!

If you’re from the UK you will know that you’re only chances of getting Caron cakes is if you either fly to the US and go to a Michaels store or buy them from eBay at ยฃ30 each!

Well hobbycraft have cracked it

They’ll be in during March, at some point, for quite some time Caron gave Michaels exclusivity, but not anymore!!!

Right, time to get some of my wips done and make some room for my new stash!
Ooh and whilst we’re on the subject of hobbycraft they’ve got a 3 for 2 on ALL yarn until 12th March there’s a banner to the right of my blog for the offer. Click on it, I might earn a penny ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thunderbolts and lightning

Very, very frightening!  I’ve not managed to get much done this week at all, it’s been a busy old week with work, I’ve been up and down the M6 motorway like nobodies business and was looking forward to a more quiet Friday.  I’ve managed to get a few hats done for the big knit, and made a start on a scarf too, good job because Warrington guardian are coming to our crochet group tomorrow morning to take some photos of us girls doing our bit for charity!

We seem to have a few new starters coming tomorrow morning and, we should (fingers crossed) have our new table right on the mezzanine floor where everyone can see in hobbycraft, we’ve been tucked away around the back for the last few months where no one can see what we’re up to, so I’m really looking forward to that, Lynn one of our lovely crochet ladies has even managed to wangle us access to a kettle so we can have brews!!!!

Here’s a few of my hats, hopefully they’ll keep someone arm this winter ๐Ÿ’•

Anyway as I was saying I was looking forward to a peaceful Friday working from home…… I got in the car at 07:40 this morning with my daughter and off we went to pick her friend up and drop them off at school, we got to about half a mile away from school when there was an almighty bang, huge bang, then a flash of light, thunder, the girls were scared and said they didn’t want to go to school, ‘tough!’ I said.  I got them to school when my mobile rang, my husband, who was still at home,

“lisa !! There’s been an explosion! There’s a massive hole in the roof, what do I do!”
Ok a hole in roof, omg where?! In the roof he says, of course im thinking that he can see this through the ceiling, so I’m in a panic, gets home and everyone’s intruder alarms are going off, neighbours out on the street, it’s my house, we’d been hit by lightening…….

Doesn’t look that bad, well not as bad as he made out, now, I work in the fire and flood industry, so my first thoughts are where’s the fire? Is there anything smouldering in the loft, it was also hail stoning, so where’s that going?! Luckily there was nothing smouldering , but up in the loft you could see broad day light, but we had no electricity.

It’s amazing what lightening can do it literally sent 1,000’s of volts of electricity right through our house and anything that was plugged in and being used is basically fried inside, including my beautiful heated bathroom mirrors!

See where the elements are behind the mirrors? Well they’ve burnt through ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

So after a long day we eventually got electricity and heating back on, and temporary tarpaulins on the roof until it can be fixed permanently.  But I’ve got no dishwasher (3rd world problem) it took the brunt I’m afraid, smoke alarms fried, intruder alarm fried, phone lines fried, all of our televisions completely cooked and sky boxes smoking.

We’ve got a loss adjuster coming out on Tuesday, so hopefully everything is covered, the only saving grace is that I love crochet, and for that I don’t need a television or broadband…..hubby went to bed at 18:30 ๐Ÿ˜‚ bored out of his brain!!

So a bit of advice, take it from me, if you’re not using it, unplug it!
